Step 2: Relaxing

Tools for relaxing the conscious mind

In this video, we look at relaxing the conscious mind.

You didn’t consciously create your phobia one day; it emerged over time. As discussed in the previous video, trying to tackle your fear with pure logic isn’t easy, so it’s essential to get out of your head and relax. This relaxation can be achieved through a variety of techniques, such as breathing exercises, mindfulness, and self-hypnosis. Regardless of the method, the goal is to calm the mind and the body.

These techniques serve a dual purpose: they help you stay present and prevent you from becoming overwhelmed while also guiding you to uncover your phobia’s root cause.

Your unconscious mind holds emotional memories and connections that might not be immediately obvious. Practising relaxation helps access states of consciousness that aren’t affected by the hyper-aroused stress response.

The book provides several exercises and steps to follow for relaxing the mind. Since some require closing your eyes, it’s best to familiarise yourself with them by reading or listening to the audio version before attempting the techniques. By combining different tools and practising regularly, you’ll achieve deeper relaxation and clarity, significantly aiding your journey in overcoming phobias.
