A common mistake, even by skilled intervention therapists, is taking a one-size-fits-all approach without getting to the issue’s core. For example, a fear of flying could result from different sources: fear of heights, fear of being trapped, fear of turbulence, or fear of losing control. Accurately addressing a phobia requires uncovering its unique root cause.
Instead of asking “why?” which usually leads to surface answers, we need to dig deeper and explore the “how,” “what,” “when,” and “where”.
