This process aims to uproot that Pavlovian response and remove its emotional charge.

Visualise your phobia like a movie playing on a cinema screen as you’re seated comfortably in the audience. Watch that scene unfold in black and white. As you observe the fear playing out from a calm, detached perspective, you will find it starts to lose its power over you.

The key is repetition and creative visualisation until your subconscious unlearns the old response and the root cause no longer holds sway over your present feelings.
